Drone pilots who want to make aerial recordings of the Grand Prix for Formula 1 at the Zandvoort circuit at the beginning of September should not do that. The area in The Netherlands has been temporarily designated as a no-fly zone for drones. Not only because of the safety of the spectators in the stands but also in connection with taking off and landing helicopters at the relevant location.
Circuit Zandvoort designated as a no-fly zone for drones during Formula 1
The no-fly zone is part of an emergency ordinance issued by the municipality. According to the regulation, the event attracts many visitors and there is also exceptional air traffic due to helicopters taking off and landing. For this reason, a temporary ban on the use of drones has been issued for safety reasons.
Formally, however, the municipality has no say over the use of the airspace. The city council has solved this by imposing a ban on the ‘possession’ of unmanned aerial vehicles in public places. The regulation covers the entire territory of the municipality.
The regulation will take effect on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 7 a.m. and will remain in effect until Monday, September 6, 2021, at 7 a.m. The police are authorized to enforce compliance with the regulation. Violators can be punished with maximum detention of three months or a fine of the second category.
